I'm still working with images from Norway (last year trip).

    Exact location is Hornoya island.

    Canon 1D Mark IV
Canon EF 500/f4 L IS USM
    ISO 320, f/4, 1/2000sec, exp -0,3, cropped about 5%, hand held

I get this cold feeling at it was.

I imagine the background is the agitated ocean and that you are looking straight down on the bird? From a cliff edge perhaps? That's the feeling I get from the image. Having said this, it looks like the image is somewhat backlit so the sun could not have been above - can you explain the situation you had?

A vertical would have been an good option here. As is the image needs a bit more space top and bottom in my opinion. I also think some flash would have helped with the subject.

    Petri:

I agree with Daniels points, but still find it a compelling image because of the BG, makes the mind wonder what is going on.

In order to get a bit more separation from the background, I ran a selection on the bird, and ran a multiply layer on the background only. This may not be what you were after, but I though it was an interesting option. Such an interesting background, it suggests lots of options to me.

Yes, I stood on a cliff and took picture almoust directly to the down. Backround is sea waves which hitting on the rocks and changes on the colour of the waves was more blue than the rest of the sea. And sun not directly touch bird or the rocks.

Bird was so close to me so it was limited possibilities to composed the picture better;-(

I like the shot very much Petri. I absolutely love the pattern of the BG and I like top side view you have captured here. I agree that the subject is a bit cramped in the frame. And I see a blue/cyan cast that you might want to get rid off. The second shot seems to be a bit overexposed....the whites look a bit hot. The colourcast in that one is however much less and I love the pose.

    Thanks for showing

Very cool and different image. A more open compositon definitely would have helped but I still like it.
