Beautiful colour and light Kerry. Of course the open bill is a key- it almost looks like the lower mandible is not attached to the bird! Nice and sharp. I wish I had them in my back yard!
Love the light and all the detail Kerry!!
Nice portrait Kerry, I like the sharpness and the great colors and the background is just right.

Nice light and sweet pose.
Nice one, Kerry! Great light, color and detail. The extremely open bill makes it more interesting - agree with John, it does almost looks like the lower mandible is detatched!
Kerry - an unusual pose captured well. Nice light and detail. I'm curious do you shoot in AWB and adjust afterwards or are you using custom wb in camera?
TFS,
Rachel
Thanks everyone!
Rachel, I seldom use AWB and you can see in my tech info that I was set at 5100K here, which I use a lot. It is very close to the "daylight" setting and I find it works well to capture the scene much as the eye does. I am a minimalist when it comes to letting the camera make decisions.![]()
Nancy, nice to see you here!

Thanks Kerry, I saw it noted, hence the question. I've used the settings such as "cloudy" on occasion when I wanted a little more warmth but not custom WB at the time of shooting, so just curious.
Thanks,
Rachel
Rachel, you should try using the manual setting sometime. You can start at 5200 or so, take some shots, and try raising or lowering the color temperature and see what it does! I find it to be much more consistent than AWB as it isn't constantly changing with the amount of white in the scene.
Sorry I didn't understand your question before. The settings I show are all for the camera.![]()

Very nice Brown Pelican image Kerry! I like what you did with it in the Out of The Box forum. I too never use AWB.
