Default New York City - Boxed In

I wasn't sure what I was going to do for this week's theme. Since they are recent, I still had copies of some Moon Over Manhattan photos on my Laptop. I really wanted to challenge myself and do something very different with the long, flat Manhattan skyline. For the longest time I've had this concept of boxing in Manhattan (or unfolding, if you like).

Breaking the image down into various geometric components, and then using a series of transforms, I'm really pleased with the unique perspective on what was a more traditional skyline image. And for me, what puts this over the top is the moon shining it's light over Manhattan!!

    Enjoy!

Perfect for this weeks theme, Scott. Very unique and imaginative way to transform the Manhattan skyline. Like the play on words, and agree the moon shinning down from the top plane (box lid) does put it over the top!!

Scott, Very clever and creative. I really like the title and the placement of the moon also but it's the deep blue against the black that really makes this special for me. Nice work!!! Love it!

Scott, I love this! I have been pondering a "geometry" theme for OOTB and this makes me realize it could work. Nice OOTB thinking and execution. Of course you started with a super image!

Unique and awesome vision, Scott! Love the way your exposure brings back some shadow detail in the buildings. Neat shades of night colors. On geometric shapes like these, my eyes want to do the "symmetry dance". It's neat how each of the five shapes is different and this helps me enjoy the concept as well as the form. I image you tried several perspectives, borders, bg colors and "gaps" in your processing, but I was wondering if it might help to have the LLC of the moon image more directly above the ULC of the center city image. It just draws my eye for some reason. In any case, this is one of those images that I am very intrigued with and I love the subject and your imaginative processing.

Wow, wow, wow!!!! Magnificent work. Creative and perfectly executed. What makes this over the top for me are the angles of the images on each side of the box. Beautiful original image, Love those whites and blues and black. Truly outstanding work.
