    Australasian Grebe (Tachybaptus novaehollandiae)

Taken last spring here in Sydney. This pair had their nests and eggs destroyed by flooding three times till they finally managed to raise one chick. They started late June and completed one cycle of breeding late February!! Not easy to be a Grebe...!

Almost full frame, no blurring of BG - very basic PS adjustments.

A real beauty, Ofer. Grebe's are tough subjects, and to get the pair, with both HA's, beautiful colors and details, wonderful BG, is truly masterful. Only nit might be a little shine (from flash?) on the breast of the RH bird. Don't know if it's worth trying to tone it down; its a stunning image either way.

Incredible image Ofer. Love the soft BG and FG colours combined with two sharp well placed Grebes.

    Gorgeous image!
Wonderful BG/colors and love the "opposite" poses!

Might take some off the bottom.

    Thanks for your comments guys!
Bill, these grebes have a bright shiny white breast - the way it looks in the image. I could have easily toned it down but that won't be the natural look.

I love these birds and the capture. I think I remember you posting some last year. The only thing I would try is some off of the bottom. I think it would add more punch to your subjects. The water below is a bit overpowering as is.

Ofer, Lovely image design and the water colors really make this special. I agree w/ Marina , a little off the bottom. Nice sharp details esp. the one on the left.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions guys!

The reason I left all the room at the bottom was to emphasize the fact that the nest is actually floating and not attached to land.

Very very interesting image . Great on the exposure . The tension and the concern shows on their faces too.
