This image was taken this weekend, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, near our new home. The sunsets from this point will be the focus of many images in the years to come, as we explore our new environs, I'm sure.

Modifications in CS4 included; Denoise 5, Selective Color, Vibrance & Saturation, Adjust 4 and InFocus.

    Enjoy!

Please tell me, what special thing did you do in-camera or post-processing to make this image?

    Hi Norm,

As noted: Modifications in CS4 included; Denoise 5, Selective Color, Vibrance & Saturation, Adjust 4 and InFocus.

It was pretty much just going for the feeling of the image. The color is not that far from true, but Topaz Denoise 5 was used to take out the noise in the dark areas and also softened the picture a little. I used the Topaz Denoise 5 RAW Strongest Preset, without further adjustments. It was more than needed for the noise reduction, but added the softness that I liked. I try all of the presets with images to see which fits the best and only make further adjustments if it is really needed. I didn't in this case.

I use Selective Color to bring out the black color of the scene, which gives it the pop that I like. I use the tabs in reverse, starting with Black then Neutral and White. I use the color tabs as needed, but do not try to adversely change the color of the scene.

Vibrance and saturation are used as needed. I find the Selective Color in CS4 to really make the color I want and vibrance just tweaks it.

Topaz Adjust 4 was used to again add a little pop and smoothness to the scene.

InFocus is a new Topaz add-in that I find very useful, to tweak the sharpness of almost any image. I personally like it better than the PS sharpening tools.

As for in camera, I took about 120 images during this sunset, to get the ones I liked. I bracketed in 2/3 increments and set the center bracket exposure for +1/3.

Lovely Mark and as I have said before-it's nice to see you posting again. Colors are beautiful and I like the composition. The bird is a tiny bit small in the frame but the sun is so well placed I don't notice it.

Man, I would love to see this in a great big print! That red is intense and really stirs an emotional response. Lovely and well executed image, Mark!

Hi Mark, I like the other-worldly look to this sunset. The crispy detail gives it deep focus look. I like the lone bird too, it's subtle.

Nice one, Mark. By boosting the color vibarance & saturation and your other processing, you really instensified the essense and feel of this glowing sunset. The red sun light reflection on the water looks great. Well done!

Thanks for the explanation Mark. That's an impressive effort, with a remarkable and beautiful end result.

Thanks for viewing and comments, Denise.

Glad to be back. It's been a long and winding road, but fun as well.

I tried to get those birds to inhale when they came into view, so they would be bigger in the scene, but you know how uncooperative they can be!!! There was a small flock flying in and out of the scene, but never in the right location for a good image. However, I did want to have one or more in the view and this is the best one with the sun placement and effect.

Nice colors Mark. You could probably submit this with the "Perspectives" theme this week since you have a couple elements that draw the views eye - the vanishing sand line, the vanishing sun, etc.

If you get another opportunity, a human silhouette in an image like this could add some additional interest.

Looking forward to more brilliant sunsets from you!!

Thanks Scott for viewing and comments. Appreciate it.

I did have the option of human silhouettes as there were many kids that kept running in and out of the view. But I prefer the natural image, normally. I try to avoid human interaction, wherever possible, unless it aids the vision. But appreciate your comment, as all visions are welcome.
