When the Wheatears arrive it is officially spring in the North West of England.
I came across a pair of Wheatears earlier in the week whilst out for a walk. They were very approachable, probably worn out following their exhausting migratory flight from Africa. Ironically I didn’t have my camera with me that day so I decided to return this weekend, with the camera, to see if I could record an image.
I found the Wheatear again but they were somewhat more energetic than the tired couple I had found earlier in the week. This one was very skilful at maintaining a large distance between us. Eventually we realised that we were no threat to each other and I was able to fill the camera frame with my target subject.
Wish the light angle was just a few degrees more to the right. I generally like some modelling from the light, to give that 3D effect, just a sliver less shadow would suit me better.
Not enamored of the perch, although the lichen softens it some.
I like the simplicity of this photo. Sure the light angle could be a little better and the perch could be wee bit nicer (and maybe there should be little less room on the right side) but there is something in this photo which I just like.
