Very cool title! I like the details and the OOTB thinking for this one w/ the color temp. The black really makes this pop.

    Artie,

I'm surprised at the level of detail and sharpness with the combination of lens and 2x converter at f16. Very well done technically.

Hey Artie - Interesting use of color temp on the moon and I like the detail.

But you do know that Blue Moon refers to a celestial event and not the fact that the moon is made of cheese!

Andrew, Can you say "Focus with Live View" and 4-stop IS? :)

Scott, Great to see you hear. I know nothing about the night skies. And I have no clue on the blue cheese thing. I am remembering that a rare type of moon--which one?--is the root of the saying...

    Thanks Denise.

Hey Arthur, love the details and the blue is beautiful. I believe that a "Blue Moon" is when you have two full moons in the same month where the second full moon becomes known as the blue moon.

Awesome moon shot, Artie. Excellent details and sharpness. Love the title and your use of color temp... great OOTB thinking!

That's a cool, blue moon, Artie - literally! Nice detail & choice of color temp, but if you had gotten a ride on an albatross you could have had a closer shot. Or maybe you did!

btw, were you able to see "Wisdom", the 60-year-old albatross?

I like the idea, but on my monitor it seems too cyan for night time color. I think I would move the color balance a bit.

Thanks Cheryl. Everything on Midway has a CYAN glow to it; it's the color of the lagoon, that plus some turquoise.....

Really? Even at night? see, learning isn't limited to photography here at BPN.
Then is there some way to add something to the image that is identifiable as Midway? It won't be as much of a closeup to the moon, but would explain the cyan glow.

Hey Artie - Thanks, good to be here!

btw, Andrew is correct - Blue Moon refers to when the moon is full twice in one month - the second one in that month is the "Blue Moon". The moon cycles every 28 days, but most months have a couple more days, so every couple years or so a month will have two full moons!

I love moon shots! The blue moon is always a great idea and I love the detail. I do have one techie question - surely you had the camera on a tripod and doesn't the IS shut down when it senses that its on a tripod? On the other hand, I've seen that behemoth of a lens you have and maybe it keeps the IS working due to the mass involved.

I like the more cyan original, as it really reminds me of the moon on really clear night like you probably had there at Midway. The second one looks too magenta to me.

Hey Kerry, As far as I know, no present Canon IS lenses shut off IS when the lens is on a tripod and I pray that they never do... I do recommend IS 2 be left on all the time....
