Sometimes a bird trys landing on a long straight branch floating in the water and they do some "log rolling" as was happening here, though it is not quite a log.

    Hi William,

Overall a very nice image, and one that I would be pleased to have taken. The bird is sharp and well exposed, I like the splash of water, and the plumes. However to me the whole image has an odd greenish cast to it, and the eye is immediately drawn towards the large orange out of focus thing in front of the bird. I'm not sure if it can easily be cloned out, but it miht be worth a try.

Thanks Richard. The object to the right is a tree and reflection and could easily be cloned out. I thought about it earlier and wasn't sure. Now that you mention it I think its eviction is a good idea.
Now the odd greenish cast with the whole image? Of course the majority of the image (the environment) is predominantly green. so I don't understand the "odd greenish cast" there, but indeed how the environment effects the colors of subjects with a color cast is of major concern (to me at least) and requires color correction in either the RAW converter or image editor.
This was done with this image, and with the monitor I am using I don't see a problem. It could be my eyes as well. I'm very interested in other members perception of this. regards~Bill

This is a very good capture and image. Composition, sharpness, colors, all to my liking. The "odd greenish cast" is not at all "odd", for me. I suspect the green light coming off the green vegetation has caused the greenish cast to the bird.

I do agree, "the large orange out of focus thing in front of the bird" has to go.

Nice catch. You caught him doing a balancing act.

I agree with you about the 'green color'. I think it's just reflections off of green vegetation.

Hi Bill, this is a wonderful image and I like it a lot. Love the action, sharpness, and color rendition. There is no green cast on the bird at all, in fact the color on the heron is slightly red and exactly right for the warm light. The yellow and green all around is fooling eyes into thinking there is a green cast (and in fact your monitor will spill some green onto the bird), but the color meter says otherwise. Nicely done! It could just be an optical trick to my eyes, but does it need a slight CW rotation?

Thanks Kerry. I'm glad to hear that you don't detect a green cast on the bird and you have proved to me the usefulness the color meter that you had expounded on earlier. (I'm naturally skeptical)

You are correct about the CW rotation, needs 1.7 degrees CW. Good catch. regards~Bill
