    Default Wood Duck Silhouette.

Its almost a shame to render this striking beautifully coloured duck all black...but I am a fan of silhouettes so I could not resist. It was swimming slightly away, but waited until it turned its head before depressing the shutter button - this gave me a perfect profile of the distintive head shape of this species.

Canon 30D + 100-400L @275mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/6.3, ISO 800 (settings histogram checked), handheld, slight crop for comp.

Some of the white lines on the plumage were still faintly visible thus eliminated in post.

Love the golden water here, The shape tells the type of duck for sure, Ron

Yes a pitty to not show of the colours of this stunning duck.

I may try to do some of these silhouettes. With the right background and profile they can look good. TFS

    Daniel:

Nice colors, distinctive head with good angle.

The dark shadows in the water distort the profile somewhat, and make the silhouette less effective for me.

You have really been making the most of your wood duck chances this year>

    Cheers

Very nice silhouette I like the texture of the water as well. heads in a nice postion turned any more one way or the other and you would loose the distictive shape. nice job....
