Default Midway Off to a Great Start

We suffered through the 2 1/2 hour mandatory orientation this morning but killed this afternoon, and ended with a very nice sunset. After lunch I found a very tame Masked Booby sitting on the beach....

This one was created with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens and the EOS-1D MIV. ISO 200. Evaluative metering -1/3 stop: 1/2000 sec. at f/8 in Av Mode. Don't be shy; all comments welcome.

I might be changing my mind about silhouettes. I like this.

What's not to like about a perfect silhouette when it is so well crafted and in such perfect light!

Great silhouette image...The colors in the BG from the sunset are quite spectacular. I agree re painting comment, it looks like a painting. Great image Arthur

Wow, you've certainly been on the sunset silhouette roll lately. Do you think you'll see the 60 year old Laysian Albatross momma?

    Lovely image.

For me simplicity defines it. Clear as a bell.

It is hard not to imagine the Booby enjoying this as much as you must have been.

    Looking forward to more.

Just a stunner, Artie. I too have been converted to a much greater appreciation of silhouettes by your masterful handling of these.

Many thanks for the kudos gang! They are greatly appreciated. Alan, the very old albatross is right outside my room. We need to ask to have it pointed out to us. Dave, the bird in the image is a Laysan Albatross; sorry for the slightly misleading comments above :)

Here's the best part of the story: when we got out of the golf carts it was about 2 hours till sunset. I saw some birds on this sand ridge and thought, "Whoa, get one in the right spot atop the ridge and this could be killer at sunset." But all the birds were in bad spots, in the middle of bushes or sticks.... So I got about my business and when the sky color starts getting nice I turn around and there is this bird sitting atop the perfect tussock of grass.... Whoohoo!
