Default Nikon 200 f/2.8 VR II with TC's..anyone else having "problems"?

I was messing around yesterday and found my camera hunting way too much, and mis-focusing.
It was a low contrast day w/ lower light levels (f/2.8, ISO800, 1/500, w/o TC's) and I'm sure that contributed. (bumped ISO for the TC's)

TC's were a Kenko TelePro Plus 300 1.4x and a Sigma EX 2x (latest one). I don't have any issues using these with other lenses (other than manual focus above f/8 and inherent loss of IQ). But they were unusable.

If it's a brand thing, then I don't know what I should do because I don't *think* the Nikon TC III's will work/mount on my Sigma 300-800 which is where I *need* them.

I'll try it in better light (eventually, nothing but rain/overcast), but I didn't think the light was bad enough for the behavior I saw. (there were plenty of "lines" for the sensors. The lens worked rock solid without TC's)

I hadn't messed with it before really because I usually just switch lenses but it would be nice to have the option for walkabouts.

I assume you mean the Nikon 70-200vr2 and I use the latest nikon 1.4tc with no problems although large crops do loose some detail. I would not use a non Nikon TC on a Nikon lens

    Yes, the Nikon lens.
I have used the TC's w/ other nikon lenses w/o issue.....But if Nikon TC's are going to work that much better I would consider buying those (will they mount on non Nikon lenses?)

i have 1 non nikon tc, a sigma 1.4 that i use on my sigma 150
i figure for what I have invested in the body + lens the tc is a bargain so I use the same brand and the latest

I don't know that previously I would have considered TC's "a bargain" at least not at Nikon's prices....but the TC III's might be from what I'm hearing around.

Looks like I'll be getting the Nikon 2x. The lens REALLY does not like the Sigma 2x. (works well w/ the Kenco 1.4 though w/ decent light)
