    Default Temminck's Courser

The Timminck's Courser is usually seen in pairs or small groups; It forages by alternate runs and pecks at ground (as can be seen by the small termite mound that it had been pecking through on the left). When alarmed raises and lowers body by straightening and bending legs, keeping head still. This image is one of several good shots I got of the species in The Rietvlei Nature Reserve in Pretoria, South Africa.

    Default Good image indeed!

Victor! A wonderful portrait. Is this an alarmed pose, or did you catch the bird mid-movement of the head? Also, the ornithologist in me wonders if you caught any images of the bird feeding or that shoe off the incredibly small toes?

    Really enjoy your posts!

    Hi David,

Yeah caught following a bug with his eyes, hence the pose. However, I do have some images (not as good) of it with a termite which it dug out from that sand heap on the left ... and also one nice and close showing the tiny feet ....... send me your e-mail address, I will e-mail them to you (if you interested)
