Nice close-up. Love the eye how it is darker around the edges. Good details. I personally would have preferred to see the preening action on this side of the OOF feathers, but good comp for the pose you had.

Are you sure it is a Green-backed Heron? Looks more like a Grey Heron to me...

Is this what a green back looks like with a 500mm lens pointed at it at close range Good sharp detail captured, and you have the focus placed in the right area. Not much you could have done with the DOF at this close range. Hoping to visit you this weekend if the weather plays ball.

Focus is spot on and reveals a ton of detail.

I wonder if a touch of black in heron would make a difference.

Very nice composition, and good shot against nice clean and complimentary bg.

Thanks guys...Definitely a Green Backed Heron ( Butorides Striata) Not sure on the exact spelling of the Genus and species. This one is a about 30 -40cm where as our Grey Heron is about 90-100cm

Wonderful detail and colors and the eye just pops off the frame.

Man, the pale grey colour threw me off...I was sure they were much browner than this! Thanks for the clarification
