    I have two of this birds that make occasional visits to our back yard. Any ID help would be appreciated.

    Thanks to everyone for your help. I had considered American Gold Finch, but could not convince myself that I was correct. You helped me un-muddle my mind.

    Like the flowers. The bird is quite bright, too centered, and doe not look particularly sharp.
