It was now 6.40pm and getting so dark that even the Cheetah bros trio had given up on this herd of gnu. They had tried unsuccessfully for the last 1 1/2 hours.
Without the D3s I wouldn't have stood a chance of capturing anything at all, taken @16000ISO with only one round of selective NR.

    C & C most welcome

Impressive performance at ISO 16000!! Well processed Marc, you've turned a difficult situation into a nice image, well done.

I know that you where working against the upper extreme of exposure Marc in the low light and the camera did stet at that ISO, but I would have preferred to have more depth of field to better portray the stalking of the cat and it's prey.

The OOF hill at right is also distracting.

works well to show the capabilities of that beast of a camera Marc! I have to agree with Robert that compositionally this doesn't really work for me I'm afraid.

Thanks Robert & Morkel, I agree that from a composition point of view it doesn't offer much, I should have stated it was merely to indicate what can still be achieved at this level of ISO.

I thought as much, Marc, but didn't want to put words in your mouth

From my limited experience with the D3s I would not hesitate to shoot on ISO-3200 safely and get high-res-printable results, and will go to ISO-6400 if light gets worse.
