Hi Dave- You have the nice western version of this species here, withe the brownish tones. The pose and lookback head angle are really good. The phase angle of the sun looks like it's coming over your left shoulder so the head angle puts the face in shade a little. You could lighten that up with the dodging tool. The "perch" is not ideal but I would crop out the brown object running up and down the right side and if possible give a bit more room at the top.
I agree with John on cropping out the right vertical rail, nice image though.
David, nice work on the bird itself. You might try a vertical crop here with a bit more room at the top - that would take out more of the OOF area in the BG on the right hand side.
I've never seen a "Western" Junco. Then again, I live on the East coast.
Ours are different.
I like the color shades in the feathers. There is quite a range of tones.
