Nikon D3 600 VR taken at 840 mm. 1/320 at F6.3 ISO 1250. Would love the here if this works, wasn't sure on maybe posting this image a bit lighter.

    Vivaldo,

I would try lightening it up. I tried it on a download and feel it makes a big difference.

Thanks Robert, lightened the image as suggested, I like the better detail on the jackel.

    Vivaldo,

I would take a different approach.

This image reminds me of Miguel Lasa's BBC winning image.

If the jackal was parallel to sensor plane it would have been an exceptional image. Here is my take. I went darker.

Thanks very much Sid, value your input. Going darker also works very nicely and if I had to choose between the above three, would choose the darkest one. I also like the tigher crop. Will be interesting to hear what others think.

I would agree with Sid here, as that was the direction I felt it should perhaps go and worked towards, as it has a more graphic look/feel which is a nice change IMHO, although again, I think it is all subjective with something like this.

Vivaldo before I wrote my first bit I was going to ask, what PS work have you done to the image, especially in lightening/darkening the image, plus what are the the small flares of light around the front paw and bottom RH corner?

    cheers

Steve thanks. I have basically darkened the image about three stops. The small flare of light on the front paw is dust.
The light at the bottom right corner, not sure but it's reflected light and it is on the original image.

I keep coming back to this and think that I prefer either the OP or something along the lines of Sid's repost. I just wish that there was a little more light along the back to define the outline there a little more too.

    Vivaldo,

I like both your original image and Sid's repost. Perhaps in between?

Nice strong impact either way and a much stronger image than if front lit.

All three would have worked for me if posted as the original in the thread. I love these kinds of images, high impact. Well done.

the darkest version takes the cake here...very artistic :)

Ofer - did you basically just blend a lighter jackal with a darker BG? please share the steps? I like your repost too...

Hi Morkel, just selectively applied levels adjustment to the animal.
