We had sun today! (yes that is an event:D) Still quite a few ducks migrating though and some Buffleheads happened to be up in the front pond at the fish hatchery. The ladies in this image are a bit soft I think. Ducks are as seen, work was done mainly on the BG, selective sharpening done on ducks.

Not bad at all Nonda !!!! If you only had a spacing between the front pair !!! Can also suggest to make it more of a pano It will accentuate the forward motion !!!!

Nice capture Nonda - Looks like you had a ton of light to get that shutter speed with the 2X TC. Nice when you can start at 2.8... The sun was out big time on the north coast also..

Alfred panos sort of throw me would you take some just of the top? I think a pano would look pretty cool. The merged females, I wish they weren't too, hopefully as my tracking skills improve?

    Bruce, thanks!

i wouldn't take any off the top, and I don't know how to do a pano yet. Spent the afternoon with my 500 and 2X trying to capture some hummingbirds at the feeder. Very quick birds - I posted one this morning. will tackle tracking soon.

hi nonda. i like you duck pic. i like the idea of the pano crop too. i only have one question. why would you only photograph the ducks on sunny days? i used to pray for sun too but then i learned with birds that are dark and white, i have a better success in overcast or very soft light. be curious to hear what to teachers have to say about this also!!

also ducks fly more on overcast days than on bluebird sky days too. that's why duck hunters love hunting in the rain. more flying ducks!!

    Hi Harold,

When I say sun I like early/late sun, makes the water look nice, nice detail in the darks and the ducks around here alway fly if they even think a human is around:-) High overcast is fine too. Right now we have gloom, socked in nasty gloom, gloom and snow is fine, Ohio gloom the water looks a nasty brown and right now everything looks nasty brown, drab. Do I not go out an make images when its gloomy? I sure do, I just prefer some nice light.
    A Gloom image...:p

The drake as mentioned is sharp. The hens do not detract however. Looks like you did rather well under the conditions mentioned.

Harold, watchit my snark meter is running about 1000, more than ready for spring, hubby is avoiding me:eek::D

Gary thank you..Actually the conditions were pretty wonderful and the ducks didn't fly in the opposite direction, also a big plus.
