    Default Keel-Billed Toucan in Habitat

I got plenty of frame-filling Toucan shots in Costa Rica, but I also like the images that give you a sense of habitat. This bird picked a cool perch against a distant hill. I thought about a slightly tighter crop but decided against it. I'm interested in your opinions on the crop. Taken during my workshop with Greg Basco earlier this year.

Doug I personally like your previous ones better. To me the branch is too dominant in this one.

Doug, the crop works for me, and I like how the perch runs diagonally through the frame. I prefer a looser crop, so this gets my vote. I do like the detail and colours, and well exposed on the blacks. Killer OOF BG too. Well done.

Would also like to see a tighter crop. I am not sure the OOF BG qualifies as "habitat" nor I find the perch to be particularly attractive to justify including so much of it in the frame.

Doug - I would love seeing these birds "in habitat" one day
    lovely colours and exposure

I think the amount of perch would have worked better if it had ran corner-to-corner (ULC-LRC) if you get my drift?

to my eyes the toucan can use the slightest hint of more sharpening on its head

    gorgeous colours!!

I'm not sure the branch in ULC adds much "habitat" that's not already in the rest of the picture. Personally, I would have preferred a tighter crop (maybe vertical)
The branch, colors of toucan, HA, background all look very good

Lovely quality and the bird is fantastic looking...I personally prefer tighter crops to see more detail on the bird ( but thats personal)
