This gull was letting the others know that this was his territory, loud & clear!
Light is harsh I know, but liked pose, and how whites and detail in wings came out. Did pano crop to maximize wing spread in frame. Shot back in Feb at Carlsbad State Beach. ACR, PP, touched up spots on sand

I would be interested as to your thoughts on your camera set up. How do you find the 7d - 70/200 with an extender combination.

This looks sharp and the whites are detailed. Could you have gotten lower and maybe around to the right a bit?

Great pose - I do wonder what it would look like if you were head on with the bird and it had its wings out like this. I also like that touch of red.

I really like the 7D, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM +EF 2.0x II combination. Images are sharp & allows me to get reasonably close. With the extender, auto focus is a bit slower, and f stop cuts off at 5.6, which can be a bit frustrating at times. Learned about it at Art's workshop at the Photo Expo West, who gave credit to Patrick Sparkman on his BirdsAsArt blog for pointing out the excellent, sharp images that can be created with this combo. I knew I wanted to get more serious about nature photography, but don't have the funds for a big lens yet, so this is a good compromise for me.

Yes I agree, moving lower and to the right, would have made for a more impressive shot. Have to keep that in mind for future. It's amazing how just slight position changes can dramatically improve images.
