Image taken in a prior year, just edited it for the theme. Little light, but what there was came 90 degrees from me. No way to move at this location and while I won't use this often, kind of like it. Your opinions welcome.

    Grace:

Canvas Backs have some of the neatest eyes, and they are well shown here. I like the subtle variations in colors you brought out in the head and neck.

I like that you can see the subtle pattern on the birds left side, but wish you could see more detail in the whites on his right. Perhaps a multiply or linear burn selection of that area would yield a bit more.

Roman would say that your crop is WAY TOO LOOSE, but of course, I like looser crops like my recently posted red head.

    Cheers

That is one tough species to get close to. Where? This image proves the point that even soft light has a direction.... The neck feathers look a lot sharper than the eyes. I think that a contrast mask on the face would help as would some work to even out the exposure (as Randy suggested).

Thanks Artie and Randy. Artie, this was from McDonald's pond in Islip. Appreciate your suggestions and will work on it. (I had one day in 2009 when there was ice on the pond at Connetquot and the Canvas backs came really close...only other time I had a crack at them).
