Got this one a couple of days ago and tried something a little different with the framing. I shot this between the tips of some pine branches going for a little natural vignette look. Curious to hear some other opinions. 7D, 500/4 + 2xTCII, f10, 1/125s, ISO 800, tripod mount, MLU, cable release, cleaned up a couple of bright dandruff flakes, full frame.

IQ for 2x looks pretty good...Like the eye...Did you do some NR on the tree trunk? Texture looks different! Nice one Steve

Hi Steve, believe it or not, I dont have a single owl image in my files. Nicely frramed in the fork of the tree, and I do like the OOF foliage in the FG. The big fellow certainly has his eyes fixed on something down below. I will have to come and visit to get me an owl. Cheers.

    Steve

The vignette works very well for me.
Agree that the trunk looks a bit odd. Nice colors overall,Sharp with that setup, enough eye contact to engage us.

    Nice feel to this one

    Cheers

Very nice! Like the soft green on the bottom of the frame. Nice detail in the owl as well.

I like the setting, pose, hunters stare and OOF foliage. Well done!

Beautiful framing, colors and detail, I really love this portrait. Makes me want to get a 2x for my 500mm!

Thanks for the comments. I did run some NR on the tree trunk to lessen the crinkly sharpness.

    Stuart,
I'll have to come visit you to get a decent kingfisher shot!
