Great BG, plumage on the bird and angle of the fish. I wonder if adding more to the bottom to get all the hanging feathers in, would make this stronger.

Thank you Alan. I tried that crop but it starts to show the leg of the bird. Maybe I should try the 16x20 crop. Will check on that.

Great shot Troy. The beak through the fish really makes this. Great technicals. I agree about the neck feathers but I guess it didn't work well.

    Great habitat photo.
I too, would have liked a bit more of the Heron, but the fish makes up for it.

Love the BKGR and the fish. The flashed pupil needs lots of work. See "Eye Doctor" in Digital Basics.

Dan, I am confused as to why you would call this a habitat photo when it shows no habitat....

Arthur, I may be wrong, but even though there is no flora shown, I think a bird eating a fish is a habitat photo, if not, I am sorry for my mistake.

You are wrong, Dan :) A bird eating a fish is a behavior image. A habitat image would show where the bird lives and would include that environment (such as a beach or a parking lot).

Troy, an engrossing shot; that BG is smooth and sweet. Your crop is defensible but there may be other ways of presenting this one. The details on the heron and fish are sharp, and your trip to the eye doctor was worth everyone's while.

Carig, thank you. Here is the first shot I posted, portrait crop, part of the series.

Very nice! Love the background and the bill coming through the fish.

I should have mentioned from the get-go that I am fine with the original crop.

I like the portrait crop with the full features shown better. But beautiful catch, especially the beak showing slightly through the fin.
