    Default Common Goldeneye courting display

Many species of waterfowl gathered on Lake Ontario are beginning courting displays. This species is quite timid and generally avoids areas where people are close to shore, such as at this marina/park. But on this cold and less-busy day I was able to sit quietly and wait for the birds to drift closer to shore, occupied by more important considerations! It's entertaining to watch their displays with the head throw-back, kicking of the feet, splashing water and open mouth. Preserving the whites while getting adequate exposure on the face was the big challenge. This is about a 50% crop with basic levels, curves, NR and sharpening. I could have cropped this a bit tighter but wanted to preserve some of the splashing water in the ULC.

Canon EOS 7D, EF500mm f/4L IS USM +1.4x, ISO:400, f/7.1@/2500, EC: -0.3, AP, AI Servo AF, evaluative metering.

    All C&C welcome.

nice pose and splash but overall this one doesn't quite work for me, I think it is because there is too much empty water what somewhat distracting ripples, it would have worked better if the more from the bird was visible or perhaps it was cropped more tightly...

Great bahavior captured here. light looks a bit harsh and I wish for a lower shooting angle.

Cool behavior with the pupil very sharp. But yes to harsh light as well as color cast issues... The bird looks way to light overall.

Like the behavior and the splash behind the bird. Maybe just take a little off the top and I also agree it seems a little bright.
