    Default Female Great Crested Flycatcher

Another image from my series on these. This time, the lovely female. I was set up in my Double Bull blind at point blank range. I was so close DOF was an issue...especially with poses not square to the sensor. This is a full frame shot.

    D300s, 600VR, 1.4tc, ISO 400, f/8, 1/800th

Hope you enjoyed and as always C&C welcomed and encouraged.

    Jason

Beautiful shot, Jason! I see the DOF issue, the breast may be a little soft and of course the tail. This is a little tight for me but I love the perch, bg and ha!

BTW, how do you know the sex here?

The head, breast and front leg are all sharp, though the details are hard to see at this size. I could have stopped down a bit more, but I still would not have gotten it all in focus, not at 850mm's and the distance I was shooting at. Yea, it is a bit tight...I can agree with you there.

Its for sure the female though. I watched this pair for SEVERAL days...and the male's head was much larger, especially the crest. The first time I was "for sure" on which was what...was when I saw them mate. No mistaken then...

If you've got a setup to bring them so close and you're in a blind, why not shed the TC, just so you have more room in the frame to compose and a chance at a smidge more DOF?

I really like that breast color and the eye contact.

Allen, I have some with out the TC, some with it. I did not want to get any closer. The 600 naked required some cropping, but still PLENTY left for what I need. At that particular moment, I had the 1.4 on, just happened to be that way at that time.
