I already posted a multiflash hummer shot from my trip. This is a natural light photo of a Green Violet-Eared Hummingbird. I'm a big fan of natural light hummingbird photography; this Costa Rica trip was my first exposure to multiflash. I like the sense of motion, along with the wing and tail position.
Canon 1D Mark III, 500mm, f/6.3, 1/640, ISO 800, monopod, fill flash
The lighting in this one looks much better. I like the eye contact and fanned tail but am not so sure about the wing position and the top of the bird's left wing looks a bit overexposed.
Charles, When you are going for sharp with a high shutter speed and natural light you pretty much forfeit all d-o-f, but heck, I have been doing OK focusing on the eye and working at the wide open aperture for the past 25 years so I do not mind the look...

This is a very nice natural light image. I like the pose and you got him sharp on the face and body. The overexposure on the wings and the lighter area on the crown must be caused by the sunlight coming from above and slightly behind the bird?
