Nice sharp image, especially for the low ISO and relatively long shutter speed. The phase angle is a little low, but still quite nice (a little bit of shading is seen).
It sure looks like Bosque. Please tell us a little of your experience. Were you able to get close to the birds easily as this image implies?
(For those who don't know, the Bosque cranes head north into Colorado and stop over in the San Luis Valley in March for a while before moving north. So if you don't get enough of Bosque, you could also go to Colorado. I've not been when the cranes are there but would like hear about Dan's experience.)
Thanks Roger. There were still quite a few cranes there as of yesterday. This was taken in the morning. There are a couple of ponds right off the road. There is a pull out and a fence as to not disturb the cranes. When the sun does come up, you get some great reflections. Before they flew off, a couple of them performed their dance.
Man, you are one brave man photographing bird action at ISO 100 (I don't think I've ever had the ISO so low for birds, even static ones!!
Very sharp, great colours, and I love the jumping action along with the splashing water. I'd love to see more room above, if you have it, and I would remove the white "debris" pieces in the water if that is within your personal PS ethics.
Oh, and a higher ISO would have likely given you enough SS to fully freeze the near wing. I usually don't mind a bit of movement (usually just at the tip) but this one would have benefitted from full freezing of the wing IMO.
Lovely action captured withe the splashes of water at the feet, I also like the view from the back with a nice head turn. Nice image with the colours working well together.
