Break the news to us gently Peter.

Peter I like the depth to this, it has an almost layer quality about it. The colour looks nice & punchy, with a clean clarity, is it down to the location & air? Well composed, & good choice of format, it all works extremely well.

My only criticism is, I wasn't there with you.

certainly a crispness to this, and vivid colours as well...your images make me want to head there even sooner than I can afford :)

    why no more B&W??

As another fan of your lovely b&w images, I'm hoping that your sabbatical is short lived.

I really like the pose on the main giraffe here, quite an interesting positioning of the legs which gives the image a feeling of activity (my giraffes are nearly always standing still :( ). Agree with the others that the image has a great crispness and clarity to it. Good feeing of the environment and yes, here's another one who would love to be heading there.

Hi Peter, I like your placement of the Giraffes in the image , gives a lovely sense of depth. Nicely done with the dof and good management of the strong light.

Etosha and Kgalagadi my two favourite photographic destinations.

Thanks for comments guys and gals..

When I captured this image it was early afternoon and light was just right.. the wind had stopped no dust/sand blowing... and for once the Giraffe were not skittish..
I also have changed my workflow , nothing drastic but getting a lot more detail from my images..

Morkel and Hilary just a little Irish humour , I promise more black and white soon.. just wanted to post colour for Ken !

Steve and Harshad .. you both would love Etosha.. the quality of light and amount of game is amazing.. I agree with Pieter , Etosha and KTP are also my favorite places..

maybe we should organise a BNP trip here..

Harshad... D3 changed my photography .. have just added a D3S to my kit which is basically the same beast.. your success rate with the tracking system/AF will blow u away.. bit of advice.. just keep contacts clean .. old TCs dont work so well ..images tad soft.. be careful of VR especially on 200-400mm I tend to keep it off.. any other advice .. just pm me..

    happy shooting

    Peter,

As mentioned, the image has nice bold colors and a certain crispness to it.

Compositionally, I am bothered by the two crossing necks in the BG. If the tree with not there and the one giraffe munching on it I would like the juxtaposition of the FG and BG giraffe looking at you.

As it is now, i find myself looking too much at the two in the BG right.

Peter - I love everything about this, the comp, detail, crispness and colors. Etosha is on my short list for my next trip to Africa.

    TFS,
    Rachel
