Friday night was cold enough to form skim ice in a lot of places. Made it easier to plan where they might show up.
Cloned a OOF cattail out of the background directly behind his back.
1dIII, AP, 700mm, 1/1250, f8, ISO 800, Tripod. Cropped approx 40% off so I think IQ has suffered a bit. Would of liked him closer but he made one swim past and was gone.

    Neil:

Interesting pose, like he is looking up at the drops on his head.

Sharp, well exposed, love the upper background.

One the challenges with these guys is getting all the various colors to show up at the same time. You certainly have some here. Nice to get that purple cheek sheen to pop, but not easy.

It looks like he needs just a sliver of CW rotation.

    Cheers

Neil, I like the open mouth and the way he's looking up. I agree w/ Randy it looks like it needs a slight rotation. Sharpness looks good. I do wish the head was a tad lighter and we could see some more detail there. But it is a great capture and a lovely image with the water color. Nice to see you posting
