Hopefully the falling drop makes up for the less than optimum head angle...:o

Photographed at Ocean Beach, San Francisco, last Sunday morning. Thanks for looking. JR

nice feather detail and color John, but I'm really missing the rest of the bird....maybe needs a tighter crop if you want a portrait IMO

Ok, here it comes. Not only the full bird but also a near perfect head angle AND you still can see the drop. :) But it needs more room on the right which is why I thought of a tighter crop in the first place.
Hope the GOPs (Gods of the Board) forgive me this double post...

    Hi John,

Love the details and exposure on the first image. The composition goes very well with this image and the water drop is a huge plus. Congrats!

Terrific photo. I agree that the original crop leaves my wanting to see more of the bird. I would go with a tighter crop.

ORIG: Just needed a bit more room to include the whole ankle joint, other wise I am fine with the COMP but not with the head angle... Love the BKGR.

Re-Post: Not as sharp, head angle better, but eye looks dead... Easy to add a bit of canvas behind and lighten the eye.

Great photo, my favorite is the first one, detail on feathers is great.

I like the second post with the entire bird. The head angle is good and I like the raised foot. The eye highlight is there, it is just small, so lightening it a bit will make it show up better, and agree it could be sharper. The first post is sharper with nice feather detail, but as you mentioned the head angle is just a tad off. Whimbrels are sure beautiful birds....
