    Alan:

Another great capture, with wonderful techs and excellent wing/tail display.
The framing for this pose and headangle works well, pleasant BG.

Only wish would have been for a bit more DOF for the birds right wing to be more in focus.

    Cheers

As larry David would say 'Pretty good, pretty, pretty good'. Sorry been watching Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Fine action shot - The black and white contrast is striking.

Love the pose. On my monitor the bird looks a little too contrasty. Are you using any flash at all? What about a Photo Trap?

    Hey Doug,

No photo trap/trigger system and no flash. I see the contrast too. I may have pushed the processing too much. Thanks.

Alan you certainly manage to get the full spread of wings and tail with your BIF shots, well done. Like the eye contact and raised feet.

    Alan -
    Another great image

In your CD you describe having the staging post parallel to the feeder resulting in "side" BIF images. How did you get the head-on/approaching shot? Did you use manual focus , select a point just behind the feeder, and then hope for the best?

Like the details in the wings and tail feathers. Great action as well.

    Alan,

Another great image. Another example of a very good phase angle giving beautiful detail in the bird's feathers. I estimate it at about 20 degrees based on the shadow of the feet, and the position of the catchlight in the eye. Note that the bird's left wing shows more feather detail than the right wing; this is due to the alignment of the feathers with the direction of the sun. The right wing feathers long direction is closer to aligning with the sun than the left wing feathers.

    Really nice job Alan.

I've been trying to catch our mockingbirds in a similar pose with very poor results. Thanks for motivation to keep trying.
