    Default Curiosity and the Cat

    Name: Lion-Cub.jpg
Views: 83

My first post in the wildlife forum, have been posting in Avian.

Taken in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. I have another shot of the cub looking at the camera but liked this expression.

50D/EF500+1.4 1/320 @ f8 iso400 EC+0.67 Shutter priority. FF with slight crop at the bottom. Toned down some bright areas in the BG.

    C&C most welcome.

loving the pose here Pieter, nicely exposed with the lion in the shade, easy to get the Kalahari backgrounds blown out this way :)
    whereabouts was this?

I dig the low POV too

Love the pose and wonderful expression on this lion. Would love to see it as a vertical crop loosing most of the body to bring even more attention to her gaze and expression, just my thoughts.

Thanks for the comments and feedback guys.

Morkel can't remember but think it was at Kransbrak waterhole.

Good suggestion Gen, never thought of that, will try and see.

    Thanks for the welcome Harshad.

Hi Pieter, a great first wildlife post. Agree with Morkel, that low POV really works and the upward gaze of the youngster is quite different. Do you remember what he was looking at? You have controlled the different exposures extremely well and have some very nice detail in the lion. Look forward to seeing some more of your wildlife images.

Thank you Hilary and Dumay I appreciate your comments.

Hilary we could'nt see what was so interesting in the tree above but it presented a nice photo opportunity.

Hi Pieter, can't really add anything more to the pose & gaze and I do like the soft muted colours within the image. Personally I might try to either tone down, or perhaps blend the 'dark' streak to the right of the lions ear, so the BG is more equal. Also and easily said than done, if you think you have got the shot you wanted and you have the time, check one or two of your images before leaving the site. This might just help in spotting if anything of the subject is clipped ie a foot. I only mention this as we ALL have done this and it can be very annoying, but if you have the time, easily corrected.

Steve thanks for looking and for your feedback, much appreciated. You have made a good point, and it is something I am trying to do since joining BPN, however some times the adrenalin takes over or the moment is lost, will keep at it though. Will also have a go at the dark streak.

Very true, as I say, we all have been there and can kick ourselves when we get back.

I like the cat's look, its posture, good detail and DOF and the bright BG.
