Wow, amazing flight pose, love the wing and tail span very much. Bird looks sharp with excellent detail, exposure is good with beautiful background. TFS.

    Alan:

All around excellence. He was in pretty close with 300mm on a FX body.
    Prefocused?

The feather display is great, particularly like the display of the strong. prop like retrices.

    A killer, for sure.

    Cheers

Great image, I love the fully outstretched wings. A tough shot to get I'm sure.

Great shot Alan, I particularly like the full spread and lighting in this image. The BGD really stands it out like mentioned.

Thanks for once again giving us something to shoot for, Alan. This image is a pure pleasure to look at. How'd the shot come about? I haven't seen a hint of a tree in this shot or in the previous one; is the woodpecker taking off from the ground? How were you able to get so close? Were you in a hide? The result is so striking and good, I can't help but be curious.
