The Woodies started to come though here this past week. Took a number of photos and thought you would like this one.

    Nice head on shot.
I am seeing quite a bit of noise through out the whole image. Looking at your settings I am thinking it may be because of the large crop. Keep at them, and maybe they will give you a chance to get a little closer.

This guy is looking prime-time with its' fresh breeding plumage!! Nice head-on pose and the colours look good. I agree the image's IQ has suffered due to the large crop. A lower angle would have been great, but realize it is not always possible.

Thanks for posting to this month's theme!!

    Richard:

Very thematic! Good points by Neil and Daniel about the IQ. Exposure looks good, not always easy on these guys. The softer light helped.

Look forward to more. I just saw the first woodies here last weekend. (Michigan). Some of my favorites.

    Cheers

    Hi Neil
I agree that the noise is troublesome; particularly when reduced for posting. I have a pretty decent 8.5x11 print prior to posting. I chose this mainly for the theme. I have several nearly full frame shots of the same bird. I'll post one or two later (presently out of town). Thanks for all that commented.
