    Workshop: Alamo, South Texas

    D3, 300 2.8, ISO 1000, f8, 1/4000, -1.0EV.

Just back from a series of workshops in S. Texas and the NANPA convention. Lots of fun, met many great people and took a ton of images.
Here's one of an endimic Woodpecker to the Rio-Grande Valley, TX. We worked on flight shots of many species and had a blast doing it.

Wing position, pose, eye contact and HA are about as good as it gets...Then we start on the IQ and the quality is awesome!

Dumay already said it for me and the background only enhances a fine picture.

This is marvelous, Alan - I totally agree with the comments above. That workshop
sounds wonderful - in-flight shots are a real challenge! Wonderful work!

I always thought the undulating flight pattern of this bird would make it even more difficult to get a flight shot but you nailed it here!

Alan, this is quite stunning. rarely do we see woodpecker(of any kind. and this is a rare one) shots like this one. great angle, BG, wing spread, open bill, sharpness....your usual very high standards.

Incredible shot Alan - I am always impressed and amazed at how you are able to capture these types of in-flight shots. I once spent two full days in a blind staking out a Northern Flicker nest in a tree hollow trying to get an in-flight shot of the bird with the full spread of underwing plumage (just as you have done here) - the birds would be in and out about every 10 or 15 minutes giving me many opportunities and I was still never able to get anything that approached this. Again - very impressed!

Yikes Alan, this is super stunning!! Not only did you get it flying, but also with the bill agape...everything came together perfectly.

Every time I think I have seen the best image ever, I see one even better. Alan, you are at the top of the list right now.

An unusual bird behaving unusually for a woodpecker--plus, techs spot on. Bird photography doesn't get much better than this.
