I have gone for years without getting a decent shot of a Ruby-crowned Kinglet
and for some reason this year, I have had several ops. This tiny guy was
unusually close and definitely giving me the 'eyeball.' Too bad his ruby crown
    isn't showing, but that's life :)

Taken 3/21/2011 Edmonds Marsh, Edmonds, WA
    Canon 40D 400mm f5.6L 1/1000s f5.6 ISO 640 Eval. Metering, some cropping and minor
sharpening (primarily the eye). No NR filtering - looked OK on my monitor :)

    Terry:

It is odd how opportunities sometimes come in bunches, and then nothing.

Very nice catchlight, I like the talons showing. I might try to very subtly bring up the birds right side in regards to exposure.

Background a bit busy, the area that bothers me the most is the dark stick angling towards the RUC.

Hopefully you will have a chance soon to show the ruby crown

    Cheers

    Hi Terry,

I love these little birds, they are so cute, but so very busy! I like the look it is giving you, but it seems a bit tight in the frame IMO. I agree with Randy about the stick in the BG, but you could probably remove that fairly easily. Nice catch, these guys are not easy to get-and they like thickets.

Randy and Julie, thanks for the critiques! Its so helpful to have your comments. Working on
these images, I get so close, that sometimes I don't see the obvious.

    Thanks again
    Terry
