    1/160, F 7.1, ISO 400.

Took this at Ding Darling, Sanibel, FL a couple weeks ago at 7:40 a.m.
Boosted contrast, curves, sharpened, cloned out a few distracting twigs. Small crop. Noise removal.

    Comments and feedback appreciated.

Hi Melissa, Good choice of comp for the pose, with a nice HA. The heron is separated from the BG nicely, but would maybe tone down the greens a touch. If this were mine, I would give the heron another round of sharpening, and run some NR on the BG.

Thanks Stuart, that's helpful. Now that you mention it, the greens do look overwhelming. Ok, am reposting with your suggestions, please let me know if you think it's improved. I appreciate it!

Very nice portrait of this species Melissa. Good exposure, head position and nice eye gives a good focal point. I don't really like the deep shadows and greens behind the bird but the bird is nicely separated from them so its not a big issue. I think I would prefer a bit more room on the left for the bird to "look into".

Agree with the above suggestions regarding NR and SH. Nice head angle and great job capturing an adult, they're super uncommon near me.

Hi Melissa, I like the pose, the suggestions by Stuart were good. The repost looks much better IMO.

Lovely HA and pose, and like the crop. Maybe a higher shutter speed would have brought out more sharpness and clear view of the feet would have been nice.

I know, I wish I'd had a better view of the feet, Art. And I was dismayed when I saw how slow my shutter speed was when I looked at that today, but I guess that's what can happen when you shoot in AV as I was doing that morning.
    Thanks for these thoughts.

Hi Melissa, here is my repost with my suggestions. All I did was desaturate the greens in the BG, darken the BG a touch, and run NR on the BG. Then I sharpened the Heron. I also fixed the catchlight in the eye.
