Actually, these Great Blue Herons are bristling with love. It is one of their many rituals that you only see in their breeding season. This particular image was created at the Venice Florida Audubon Rookery in late November 2006. I used a Canon 20D with a EF 500 IS lens with a 1.4 teleconverter attached to frame the birds. The exposure was 1/1000th @ F5.6, ISO 200.

Very cool interaction John! I would have prefered a bit more room on the left. Also a touch more depth of field as the heron on the right is ever so slightly soft to my eyes. There is also a sharpening halo clearly visible around the birds.Still a very cool shot .

I like the action a lot John Agree on the little extra room to the right You actually get away with it since the tones are dark If you set up for this tight images might consider increasing the ss in order to stop down Could benefit from more dof !!! I like the image a lot !!!!

Excellent interaction! Only nit for me is the little softness in the eyes. But the action really make that unimportant anyway. :)

Very cool interaction here, John. Great bg for Venice. My only nit is that I wish there was a little more room on the left to include the left birds entire head plume. The image appears sharp to me and I don't see any halos.
