Gary:
The pose here is nice, alert, heads up,nice angle.
The sense of isolation from the environment is good, really highlights the bird.
Bird is very sharp. I think it could go a bit brighter on the bird.
Wish there was a catchlight to give a little spark to the eye. I might try a version with the OOF brown foreground overpainted lightly with green to try to blend it in with the OOF vegetation.
Cheers
Randy
Nice pose Gary and you have a nice soft foreground & background. I agree 1000% with Randy - you definitely need some type of reflection or catch-light in the eye.
Hey Gary,
Can't add much to the excellent advice above. I'm not the biggest fan of OOF FG's......but my personal preference. I heard the NANPA summit was a bit slow this year.....
Hi Gary, the comp suits the pose, and I actually like OOF FG's. I would maybe darken the BG.
Gary, I love the scene you captured here!! I agree the eye needed something...but there is already a faint reflection on the top part of it so the trick was simply to enhance it. I used the dodge tool for that, as well as the rest of the iris. Since I had your image in PS I went ahead and also lightened the face and belly (also dodge tool), then removed what I thought was a greenish cast (colour balance, to taste), painted the lower FG element with a bit of green (as per Randy's suggestion, and tint borrowed from the BG) and burned the very lower part a bit, removed a couple of white spots near the throat (clone tool) Hope you like it as the image is worthy of some PP TLC!
Thanks Randy and everyone for your comments and suggestions. Daniel, I really like your repost. Thanks for taking the time to do it and for your explanation. It looks like I have a little project for tonight.
Yes, NANPA was a little slow but I split my time between the Summit activities and the photography ranches and nature preserves, making it a nice trip overall. I highly recommend the ranches for anyone visiting the Rio Grande Valley area.
I like the low angle and alert pose. Daniels repost really makes the most of this image. Well done Gary and Daniel!
