The alpha male & female WD getting together here. The male didn't appreciate the intrusion, blowing me a raspberry here.
The light was not in my favour with evening approaching, cloudy sky and dense scrub to contend, would have liked the female to look up a notch.

    C & C most welcome

Need a NSFW warning for this one . I like how you've got this with a minimal amount of separation showing between the two, almost like one, two-headed animal.

    Marc,

I can only ask why you have kept this "secret" for so long. Absolutely remarkable, I doubt that many have a shot of this nature.

I can only wonder why this was occuring at the time in question I know Wild Dogs generally den earlier up North, but if this was not just for fun, then the pups woud have been up and about very early in the year.

The shot itself is about as perfect as you could probably get, the males expression is "priceless".

You really should share this with the "scientists".

    Thanks Steve & Ken.

    Ken

This WD pack the Sosian 11 were part of a larger pack of 22/23, and the split had only recently occured (Aug 2010).
The alpha female from the breakaway pack had recently attacked and killed all of this alpha female's pups and this 11 were now trying to establish themselves, hence the unusual out of season mating.
So you're correct that this was unusual to see this at that particular time of year.

    Marc,

Thanks for the info, normally I would have sent a PM, but it appears not work for me anymore.

I think it is "unusual" to see this at anytime of year, marvelous image.

Hi Marc, all well done here, nice strong dog shot, and an unusual one at that too behaviour wise. The Linyanti pack were mating here a week back (didnt get any shots like yours though).
You have handled the vegetation and BG very well, techs look good, and it is interesting to see the size difference between the alpha male and his partner.
    Good job
    cheers

Marc - well captured and interesting behavior shot. The male's expression is priceless. I'm sure it was an amazing sighting and thanks for the background story.

Pretty cool image and pose. If you choose to do so....knocking down the bright grass over the ear and middle of the head on the dogs would further enhance this fine image.

Tip---(quick fix) use the Burn tool with Highlight mode to tone down as suggested above.

    Best,

    Chas

Hey Marc, right place at the right time. Just love the hint of the tongue from the male. Never seen a two headed WD before. An opportunity well used.
