    Default spoonbill landing

    in Tampa Bay, late afternoon
    Nikon D40x, 1/1000, manual, F8, 400, 250mm.

some cloning of background busyness. Some color enhancement through paintbrush.

Cropped to a vertical to focus on the bird but also to allow for that bit of his reflection in the water.

Very moment of landing action captured here, I do like the pink reflection in the water. Although background does look busy but I like it, I like the two big trunk environment at the top. Nice job of the cloning too. I might try to sharpen the bird a bit.

Hi Hazel. Excellent landing capture and I like the hint of pink reflection. I'm wondering if this was a large crop, as the detail looks a bit lacking, but I don't think it's a focus issue. The BG is better than the one on your prior post.

This is the original. I thought about posting it at first, but feared the bird would be lost in it. Opinion????

Hazel, perhaps the noise is due to slight underexposure? I don't think the crop is so severe that it would damage IQ that much. I'd like to see what some of the more experienced folks say.

Hi Hazel, I think you pretty much had to do the crop, as the original has the bird flying out of the frame. It was a good idea to retain the bit of reflection, as this adds interest to the image. I agree that a bit of sharpening would help.

I'm so happy to see these images from your time with the Captain! For those of you who don't know, Hazel won a "day on the bay" with our own Captain James Shadle with her "re-create" gannet image in Out Of The Box. Way to go Hazel!

Thanks. I learned sooooo much that day in Tampa. Congrats in advance to whoever wins the next one. It'll be a wonderful experience for you!
