Thanks Morkel and Vivaldo, the ele kept coming toward me, and I ended up with more frames from a closer distance, but I liked the look of this one best.

POV on this one Grant really works well and to have the whole reflection is a nice bonus. The perfect placement within the 'Thirds rule' gives the composition good strength and structure, creating a good, solid image. The splash to the left just adds to the bow wave, but if there is a little more to the RHS so the wave is not clipped might help? I think a one degree rotation will also help as visually it looks as if it is running up hill, don't use the ruler as it's too much. I might be tempted to add a fraction more selective USM on the Elephant only, with a slight increase in the Neutrals/Blacks to add a little more punch. I will let you ponder, knowing the result.

Dare I say it, but would work very well as a B/W too.

Hi Steve, thanks for that comprehensive critique, most useful. I will have a go at it and repost maybe tomorrow. I do have a little more space all around available, cropped from 16 to 11mp.

Hi Grant, you might need to tweak my thoughts, or 'hold' some, as a calibrated monitor is a lot better than the MacBook at present and can only guide/advise until I'm back again next week. Good luck and any questions, just fire away.

Hi Grant, like everyone here, we can all make observations and pass on advice, it is down to the individual to distill from the feedback. Therefore, my question to you is, is this an improvement and are you happier with the results?

Grant, I'm away in the outback for a few days so can't comment much from my iPhone except to say that it looks mighty fine on my tiny screen. Love the elephant's attitude. Wish I could see it larger but will have to wait.

Grant - repost looks good, can really see the added punch in the splash but it looks like you took a smidge more off the bottom. Great POV. I like the gradients in the pigmentation as well.

The head up looking down the lens contact is first rate here Grant, with an effective full semi-reflection, VWD.

Very nice Grant. I like the head on approach and how the splashing water goes from side to side. The repost certainly adds some vibrancy (not that the OP was lacking). Leveling made a nice improvement for me.

Hi Steve, I prefer the repost, and after adding some sharpening and a little more contrast to the elephant, I saw the improvement. Slight rotation also helped the feel of the image, and I only noticed that after your comment. Hilary, Marc, Rachel and Steve, thanks for the comments, glad you liked this shot. Rachel, I was in a bit of hurry with the repost and cropped after levelling, hence the loss of some off the bottom. I shall go back to the beginning for my original on file here. I am happy with how the image turned out, and thanks for feedback
    cheers
