Default Reddish Egret Hooptie Deux Sunrise for Randy

    Attached Images Attached Images

This image was created on the BPN Mods/Owners outing aboard James Shadle's Pontoon Boat Hooptie Deux the day after the SW FLA IPT concluded.

The originals for this two-frame stitched panorama were created with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens and the EOS 1D MIV. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1 stop: 1/500 sec. at f/5.6. Exposure was locked after the first frame with the AF-On button (my exposure lock button after the Star Button/AF-On button switch; see the MIV User's Guide for details)

Fantastic image Artie, the colours are just off the charts. I love the vertical pano composition and bird placement in the frame.

I like it a lot, its very unusual, and different, normally we see horizontal panoramas not vertical, the image its simple and beautiful...just perfect...
IMO photography is the art of capturing the light and that image is pure art capture...

    Artie:

Thanks for posting this one. Great colors, techs. Agree with Humberto about the vertical pano crop fitting this situation well.

It would make a great book mark, or wall hanging. The visual components are so distinctive that it would work very well at many different sizes.

The sun reminds me of a cough lozenge.

I think this image would connect with most people, whether they are bird lovers or not.

    Cheers

    Randy

An interesting lesson in proper viewing distance. It is about 9" high on my monitor and I sit about 24" away from the monitor. From that view it feels top heavy, the sun is too bright, I can feel my eyes moving up and down between sun and bird. If I move back to about 6' from the monitor it becomes cohesive and balanced, the red stripes in the reflection are actually more visible and counter the sun.

Did you shoot the top first? Is the +1 off of metering with the sun in the frame? I have yet to come anywhere close to the precision of your sunset exposures.

Had you thought about replacing the grey water area with an orange gradient from the saturated bottom to the pastel near the far shore?

Hi Alan, I like this one whatever the viewing distance :)

Which must be created first, the top image or the bottom?

No. I like the varied colors.

Thanks all for your kind comments and thanks again to Froggie for the Hooptie Deux trip. I love being out there on the bay in the pre-dawn.
