    Default "Four Corners": sleeping avocets

Palo Alto Baylands, calm pond Saturday morning. Something different that seems to have caught the eye of the "regulars" who look at my uploaded galleries.

    50D + 500L f4.5 + 1.4x non-reporting, on tripod & Wimberley II head. ISO 500, f5.6, 1/1250. Tiny crop on both sides, straightening, pp in Lightroom.

I think I might have fallen over to see this through the viewfinder! Awesome, the symmetry is great, love the textures, lots to like here. Thanks for sharing.

That one is wonderful, Allen! I would almost be tempted to try cloning off the debris from the water surface to increase the sensation of symmetry, but that might be going too far. It's a good year for the Avocets, it seems.

    Thanks, Doug & Ian.

I cleaned up just a few single specks/spots in random areas, but decided I liked the "clump" in the negative space in the middle, and felt the remaining debris on both sides outside the single legs also added to the symmetry and natural setting, so stopped there.

Very nice, much better than the similar pair that I tried. I can see why you kept the main clump of mud in the middle. I think I would remove the small bits around the right leg, and closest to the left leg.

I can SO understand Ian's remark about cloning out the lumbs in the water as that was my first thought when I saw the image. But cloned out or not, it's a wonderful image with great symmetry.
