    Nicely balanced image Chas.
Like the body turn of the bison and the tree angle.
Would I be right to conclude that you set up the camera with the tree frame on the right and then waited for the bison to move in and complete the image?

Nice job with composition and conveying the fog...I think I might like a bit more contrast.

I opened it in photoshop and selected exposure and just moved the offset slider towards -.2 and that seemed to work.

On the other hand, a lot of people see things a bit darker than I do on my monitor.

    Ian,

You are exactly correct. Seeing the image in your mind's eye before depressing the shutter is key to producing consistently successful imagery.

    Steven,

The image appears as seen. Heavy overcast and dense ground fog made the scene appear a bit lower in tone. I think further increasing the contrast would negate the overall feel encountered at the time the image was taken. I try to maintain a sense of reality as seen, so that viewers can experience the reality of the natural world, rather than one of perception.

What is reality other than one's perception of it?

(Of course, there are all the vagaries of the web and computers involved as well)

Great feel and simplicity. The river ties the buff and tree together for me while the snow and foggy conditions gives it a quiet but overpowering atmosphere. Very nice.

awesome feel here Chas, I love the compositional balance here and the foggy mood is exquisite. I think this could work with a hint more contrast/blacks but I like it very much as presented too, and understand your reasons for doing so.

Chas - I feel cold just looking at this image. The comp is very strong and the fog makes the mood.
