Here's another shot from Bill Forbes' pond in Amado, Arizona. The arrival of a pair of Roadrunners at the set-up was a great surprise, but with my 800mm on the tripod in the blind, I had far too much lens for such a big bird. Fortunately, I had brought a second body and a 400mm lens in the blind with me (in hopes of capturing the Cooper's Hawk that kept coming in and scaring my subjects). I found I didn't have a good line on the Roadrunner from within the blind, so I carefully crept out of the back door and moving slowly was able to get a much better angle shooting handheld.
Excellent capture. It is hard to get the light at the right angle to get the tricolor highlights around the eye. I also like the puffed appearance. One of my favorite birds.
Sounds like you had a great time in Arizona. The bg nicely compliments the bird and on my monitor some of the whites look a little hot? A roadrunner image is high on my list of must-do's.
Nice bird, posture, and EXP. Love the colors of the feathers. Wish that we could see more of the bird....
