    Default Baboons

Leaving Lake Nakuru we came across these baboons in some quite nice light. A couple of days earlier we had spent a bit of time with another troop but they were in heavy shadow so we were grateful for the light. I didn't get as many nice images of the babies as I'd hoped but maybe next time.

Hi Hilary, nice light, and details on the baboons. Excellent use of your DOF and speed. You have good eye contact with the small one, in its pensive pose. You also did well to get them just ahead of the shadow falling on the ground. I like the folded front foot adding movement too. Of course it could have been stronger yet if the adult had looked up, or from a lower POV, but nonetheless a strong shot for me, well executed.
    cheers

Thanks Grant. I have another with the mother looking around at the big male just out of view here, but she has walked into the shadow so it probably doesn't have any merit.

Lovely light here Hillary and the light on the youngsters face is great...As mentioned eye contact on the adult would have made it better but I like it as presented...female looks quite large and full()bodied and fur wise) looks like our males

Lovely light , and the thoughtful look on both their faces makes it kinda cute . Lovely details and use of the DOF.

Hi Hilary, if you can remember, how was this shot angle wise, as I am trying to get my head around the BG?:2:2:2:2

Sorry can't get the grey matter engaged.

    cheers

Sorry, Steve … it is a little confusing. I'm shooting from the vehicle as low as I can, the background is a hilly hummock covered by grass and dirt. The rest of the troop are sitting on the hummock but eventually all come down. These were some of the first to approach us.

Excellent Hilary, very cute baby and love the golden light and it falls perfectly on the eyes. I might blur the BKGD a bit, as it is a bit busy, it may help soften BG TFS

Very nice indeed, if you had a better look up from Mum it would have been stunning.

Thanks Vivaldo, good suggestion. The background is busy.

Like it as presented in golden light, a look up from mum would have put this up another notch.

Hi Hilary, thanks for the explanation, it helped to clarify the image, as it almost looked like a wall of grass

Mum & little one look very comfortable with your presence, indicated by her foraging for see seeds or insects whilst baby looks on, not bothered at all. The light has given a nice quality to the image, but I have to say, the little one wins my vote with those eyes and sucking of thumb. Getting a low POV is always challenging and you have done well on this one Hilary.

Hi Hilary, love the light and warm colours, and good to see the youngster with his hand against his mouth. Both nicely separated from the BG.

nice light and angle here Hilary...I too wish mom was looking up a bit more...

I ALWAYS tend to not get the shots of the babies I want, they are "photo-elusive" at their best :)

Thanks everyone. Baboons offer great opportunities, I just don't seem to have made the most of them yet.
