Default BALD EAGLE (Straight Down the Barrel)

This is for the March Theme, Straight Down the Barrel. This wild bald eagle landed within 40 feet of my vehicle blind in the upper Delaware River area. I first photographed it with the 500 f4 which was already mounted with kirk window mount, ballhead and sidekick. It was cooperative enough to allow me to slide the 500 f4 in and the 800 f5.6 out the window, add the 1.4x III teleconverter and mark IV for many portrait shots. A lot of branches in the foreground were easily removed just by changing the focal length. iso 1250, f13, 1/250, 1120mm mounted on the sidekick.

I like the perspective here Herb, and can just imagine what his prey sees. That beak can certainly do some damage.

Fantastic detail captured Herb, ditto Stuart on the beak, looks like it can do some harm, love those eyes TFS

Great sharpness and nice eye contact. The angle is a bit steep, and I'd push the exposure to the right a little.

I love the feather detail under the beak, and what looks like spittle or saliva from the mouth on its R side.

f13 gave enough DOF for the shoulder to be reasonably sharp, too.

    Very nice theme image, Herb.
