I finally renewed my membership on BPN and to celebrate I decided to post one of my favourite images. :)
This was taken in the Linyanti area of northern Botswana around 5 years ago.

Great moment and I really like the reflection and the look on the Lionesses face is fantatsic( Almost like she is disgusted by the water)...i would like to see the overall image a bit lighter
Hi Per, very nice shot and an unusual one. I like the strong expression on the lions face, as well as the detail (bubbles) in the water around her. She appears to be in quite a rush, would this have been from a sighting where the lions were trying to hunt buffalo and got chased?
Agree with Dumay on perhaps making the lion at least a little brighter.
cheers
Grant
Well welcome back, and an interesting shot to kick things off with.
There are some nice features within the image and like Dumay has indicated, the reflection in the more calmer water is a nice touch juxtapose to the more busier elements above the wake of the water. You certainly get the feeling that she was swimming hard and fast to cross the river. I would also agree that the image does need some selective lightening/brightening, but would leave the lower half as you would lose the nice qualities as presented. Personally I might also suggest cropping a fraction off the top (say 10mm) so you have a more defined, darker edge for the image and if possible, add a fraction (or move your crop further down) so you have more below, so the reflection is not as tight to the bottom edge. Increasing the ISO to 400 would have given yourself a fraction more shutter speed, just to help things.
Look forward to seeing more.

Post Production: It’s ALL about what you do with the tools and not, which brand of tool you use.
super sighting well captured, Per Gunnar! you can see the disgust on her face...
I agree on making it lighter - it seems underexposed by at least 1/3rd?
oh - and welcome back![]()
Superb Per! The face of disdain, the bow wave, kicking rear feet splash and reflection gets my vote for IOTW.
Minor nit on the increase on exp, would touch nothing else. VWD

What a great expression on the lion's face. Would agree with advice on image quality but worth trying to correct as much as you can. The turbulence of the reality compared to the smoothness of the reflection is a great contrast.
Terrific image , love the expression and water here
Here is re-post with exposure adjustment and slight selective sharpening , hope you don't mind

Thanks for the comments guys. I have to admit that I have looked at this image for so long, I hadn't thought about adjusting the exposure, but I do like what was done here.
She and her two sisters had been wandering along the opposite bank of us, when suddenly she just plunged in to cross. She was definitely not that happy when she came out, growling and shaking herself.
The repost did exactly what I was thinking about !! Great to include the reflection . One of the best Lion Images I have seen .
I actually processed this years ago in RawShooter (which I loved) and just did a new one Lightroom. The initial conversion gave me VERY different colours, so adjusted White Balance to Shady and a couple of other tweaks (lightened it slightly and sharpened the face a bit). The water colour is probably more accurate to what I remember now
(The original process was done in automatic mode in RawShooter as I was pretty green with Raw images at the time.)
Per,
The repost is a staggering improvement making the image even more outstanding.
excellent repost on this one Per!
What a wonderful image, Per! Lightening the face was my only real nit, and I think the reposts handled that well.
What a neat capture. Love the look on her face and the texture of the glass-like water.
Thanks for the great comments.
I have to admit that I hadn't considered reprocessing this image until the comments on this page, and I am very glad I did.
Many thanks indeed! :)
