This image was created on our lone sunny morning in Greece. It is one that I will long remember :)

This one as so many were was created with the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens and the EOS-1D Mark IV. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1/3 strop: 1/1250 sec. at f/8.

Don't be shy; all comments welcome.

ps: you can see what I did with this image in Photoshop here.

    Artie:

Impressive wingspan, like the foot just getting ready to touch down, bit of red pouch showing, pano crop. Enjoyed the 'making of the image' info on your blog.

This is one that would show even better with a larger size, to appreciate the detail more.

    Cheers

    Randy

Artie, I love the moment captured here and feel like I could just push "play" and see the landing. Would love to see it at the full 1024 size as I'm sure there is great detail to be seen. Really nice reflections on the under-wing areas! Looks like you have a new favorite lens.

Thanks guys :) I was actually working on a 1024 wide when I finally got through on the phone to SAS and got my flight to arctic Norway for this June :)

And yes, Kerry, I am loving that lens when the birds are fairly close. Will be using it a ton next week at Homer!

Yes, life is tough; maybe I will be over my Greek jet-lag by the time I head to Alaska on Wednesday morning. Now I head for the StairMaster :)

Well, I don't know what to say anymore...
I like the large version as I'm seeing it here.
But it looks different in the various browsers because the sRGB tag is not embedded.

The differences are more apparent at their full size.

OK Steven, As always, I used Convert to Profile to convert the image to sRGB. I have never once knowingly embedded anything. What did I do wrong? (I did create this using Save for Web rather than via an action. Same BTW as my last large one....)

Not trying to be smart or anything....this is something I'm just learning about myself (I started a post a bit ago about finding a "color glitch")

By default I do have the color profile embedded in my pics(because that's what I read I should do, not because I understood why)...it's usually a checkbox or preference setting.

In PS "save for web" dialogue it's a checkbox in the jpeg quality setting area just above convert to profile.

Here's the same pic in the various browsers with the tag embedded (should look much closer to each other)

This has been driving me nuts since I found it....I mean we all want to share what we think we are sharing and many of us go thru the trouble of correctly calibrating our monitors etc....

    Hope this helps!

p.s. I just took it into PS and saved it again w/ the tag embedded....it looked right in PS when originally opened into the sRGB color space)

This one puts a smile on my face as it looks to me like the Pelican is happily skipping along the surface. I appreciate the photoshop lesson, too.

Artie, great head on capture, and very well timed to capture the full wing span. Just love the detail and sharpness. Can you explain why you left more room on top, when in fact he is landing towards the lower part of the image - and should leave more space to land into. Just asking, as that is what I would have done. Just asking.

Artie...so many good things here...but what I like most is the one foot up and the the other one down. And the reflection as Arash mentioned. I also like the "eyes at ROT" placement of the subject in the frame.

Thanks Kerry, I believe that I have a few more sharp ones in the series. I will see what I can dig up when I have a moment...

Thanks Stu, It is rare that I put a landing bird high in the frame. In general I like more room above all of my birds than below. In this case, including more of the frame below would have meant having to deal with more pelican heads..... (See the 2nd image here.) It was a lot of work dealing with just a small area of the REFL when replacing the top of one pelican head.... Plus, I really like soft blue skies :)

Beautiful landing pose captured I like the larger version posted as it really shows the detail throughout.
